Hemerocallis 'Breath of Blue Air'

Hemerocallis 'Breath of Blue Air'

Let’s be honest. Hemerocallis 'Breath of Blue Air' is not blue. It is a gorgeous rich lavender-purple but, you have to concede, this is so far the closest to blue that anyone has managed with Hemerocallis,  commonly known as daylily. Also, a delightful bluish sheen covers each flower. Despite the name, this is an excellent perennial, richly deserving of a place in any garden.

Hemerocallis 'Breath of Blue Air' forms a clump of arching, strap-like green leaves, and is one of the interesting darker-flowered daylilies. Each lavender-purple bloom, with a small white edge to the petals, and a luminous yellow-green throat, is wide and open. Some people refer to it as UFO (or Unusual Form) type. The tips of the petals are usually curled, creating a most attractive shape.

A hardy perennial, meaning that it will come back year after year, this 'Breath of Blue Air' daylily reaches around 81cm in height when in flower, so is perfect for the front or mid-way point in a border.
